How to Apply

Requirements:

  • Applications must be received by January 21, 2026 no later than 12:00PM PST
  • Applicants will receive notification of the committee’s decision by 5:00PM PST on March 9, 2026. The committee’s decision is final. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.
Open to North America (Canada, Mexico, United States)
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited university or college and in a graduate degree program in the U.S. or Canada or Mexico (Note: applications must be submitted in English).
  • Fill out all fields. A confirmation email will be sent within 24 hours of receiving your application. Here are some grant-writing tips.
Application must include:
  • Completed application form (a link to the online application form will appear at the bottom of this article on Nov. 4, 2025)
  • PDF attachment of applicant’s 3-page research proposal, including title, abstract, primary goals and objectives, methods, time schedule, significance of your research, and plans for dissemination of findings. References should be included but do not count toward your three-page proposal
  • Itemized budget of METER instrumentation in a quote form, not exceeding $10,000 USD (View price list) (Download a quote form)
  • Applicant’s curriculum vitae (PDF)
  • Statement of support and/or letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor for the project
Documents must follow these guidelines
  • Only the content in the 3-page body of your proposal will be considered
    • References do not count toward your proposal 3-page count
  • Proposal should be double-spaced 12 pt. font (Times New Roman)
  • Margins should be one inch on all sides
  • Do not put your name or school on the proposal itself. This is to ensure winners are blind-selected with no bias from the selection committee.
  • Do not include appendices. Any content in appendices will not be considered by the selection committee.
  • Please be aware your submission (either parts or in totality) may be put through an AI detection tool
