HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY—SIMPLIFIED

Ready for faster, easier hydraulic conductivity measurements? You were born ready! Get more infiltration measurements in less time with the SATURO infiltrometer, HYPROP, and KSAT.

SATURO: Field saturated hydraulic conductivity

A simple, precise solution The SATURO infiltrometer combines automation and simplified data analysis together in one system. It even computes infiltration rates and field saturated hydraulic conductivity on the fly. The SATURO makes life a little easier for those who need a faster, more accurate way to measure Kfs in the field.

Eliminate guessing: Single and double ring infiltrometers require you to guess the “alpha factor” to manually correct for 3-dimensional flow. The SATURO infiltrometer automates the well-established dual-head method which simplifies the analysis, allowing you to determine field saturated hydraulic conductivity without making any dubious assumptions.

KSAT—Automated soil hydraulic conductivity for the lab

The KSAT is the only easy-to-use automated setup for taking saturated hydraulic conductivity measurements in the lab. In its simplest form, it’s an instrument that uses both the falling head (automated) and constant head (non-automated) methods on a soil core. Best of all, it’s completely integrated, which means it comes with everything you need to make a measurement.

As the only simplified automated instrument on the market, the KSAT makes soil permeability testing a lot more convenient. The easy-to-use software performs all calculations, including temperature corrections based on the viscosity of water. You can also look forward to eliminating the need to time outflow, weigh beakers, and make judgment calls, which collectively add up to significant time savings.

How KSAT works with HYPROP

KSATs biggest benefit is how it complements the HYPROP. Both the HYPROP and the KSAT can use the same soil core, enabling you to take saturated and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity measurements and generate a soil moisture characteristic curve to get a complete picture of a sample’s properties, simplifying both processes.

Watch the video to see how the KSAT and HYPROP work together as part of the LABROS system.

Use KSAT and SATURO together

Lab and field measurements for saturated and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity can be used in tandem for a more in-depth understanding of the hydraulic properties of any soil type. Comparing these measurements at different depths and locations can provide insight into various soil horizons and help researchers understand long-term infiltration data from each of those horizons (i.e., if one horizon becomes saturated, how will that change a model for runoff?).

Lab and field instruments used together can provide researchers a symphony of information about soil infiltration rate and can be used as powerful tools in understanding data and predicting a soil’s behavior over time.
