In February of 2025, the United States Golf Association (USGA) and METER announced a collaborative effort to design a soil moisture meter that would provide golf course superintendents precise and consistent data regarding soil moisture, salinity, and temperature. As on-course water savings become more paramount, the USGA Moisture Meter—using sensor technology designed by METER—will give superintendents the data they need to make more informed management decisions.

"On the heels of a strong GS3 smart ball launch and adoption, our Green Section team has delivered another groundbreaking tool that reimagines how facility managers collect and analyze soil moisture data. It empowers superintendents to make the best data-driven decisions, improve course consistency, and optimize water usage for their course—which is a high priority for our organization, as we continue to advocate for more sustainable agronomic approaches."

Bringing CDX technology to commercial turf management

“Our collaboration with the USGA comes at a pivotal time, when METER has made groundbreaking advancements in the CDX technology powering this water content sensor. These innovations establish the USGA Moisture Meter as one of the most accurate tools for measuring water content and salinity available today. By bringing this cutting-edge technology—once reserved for premier research applications—into the hands of commercial turf managers, we are empowering them with the same level of accuracy, reliability, and precision trusted by the scientific community.” Dr. Colin S. Campbell, President, METER Group
