ATMOS 41 Gen 2 unveiled: METER Group’s next-generation weather station

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

METER Group unveils next-generation all-in-one weather station: The ATMOS 41 Gen 2

PULLMAN, WA—September 2024—METER Group is proud to announce the release of the ATMOS 41 Gen 2, the latest innovation in all-in-one weather stations. Building upon the success of the original ATMOS 41 launched in 2014, the Gen 2 raises the bar for precision and durability in atmospheric measurement technology.

Easy to use and install, the original ATMOS 41 combined 12 research-grade measurements into a compact, robust, low-maintenance unit. Over the past decade, it has become a trusted tool for researchers, agricultural professionals, geotechnical engineers, and weather monitoring networks worldwide. The new ATMOS 41 Gen 2 introduces advanced features that enhance its accuracy, usability, and resilience.

Enhanced measurement capabilities

ATMOS 41 Gen 2 measurements include:

  • Air temperature
  • Relative humidity
  • Barometric pressure
  • Vapor pressure
  • Wind speed (New: Measures up to 60 m/s)
  • Wind gust (New: Measures up to 60 m/s)
  • Wind direction
  • Solar radiation
  • Precipitation (New: Dual measurement methods for improved accuracy in varying conditions)
  • Precipitation electrical conductivity (New feature)
  • Lightning strike count
  • Lightning strike distance

These enhancements ensure more precise and reliable data, supporting a wide range of environmental and atmospheric applications.

Key design improvements

In addition to expanded measurement capabilities, the ATMOS 41 Gen 2 introduces several user-focused upgrades:

  • Modbus communication: Customers can now select between SDI-12 or Modbus RS-485 communication protocols, enhancing compatibility and flexibility.
  • Increased durability: The outer shell is constructed with materials designed to withstand higher levels of UV radiation, ensuring long-term performance in harsh environments.
  • Integrated leveling bracket: A built-in leveling bracket simplifies installation, allowing for quick and precise alignment at the base rather than relying on pole adjustments.
  • Faster scan rate: The sensor scan rate complies with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) guidelines, providing faster and more reliable data.
  • Easier maintenance: A redesigned, water-tight hatch allows for easy access to the relative humidity and barometric pressure daughter board, streamlining routine maintenance without the need to replace protective filters.

Customer-driven innovation

METER’s research and development team drew upon feedback from thousands of ATMOS 41 users around the globe to create a product with improved accuracy and durability that is also easier to use. By integrating these improvements, the ATMOS 41 Gen 2 solidifies its position as a cutting-edge solution for environmental monitoring and atmospheric research.
